Finley Never Disappoints

One winter, many years ago, I was up on the OSU campus in Corvallis. I'd just gotten into my car and was starting to head home when a humongous flock of Canada geese flew over head. In awe, I pulled my car over, rolled down my windows and watched. I had never seen so many geese before, and I couldn't understand how everyone around me was going about their business as if nothing extraordinary was happening. Fast forward roughly 15 years and I still find the huge flocks amazing. I've … [Read more...]

Stand By Me: 30th Anniversary

In June of 1985 a young film director trying to prove himself brought four unknown child actors and an entire film crew to Eugene. Yesterday’s Adventure: Book Review

I admit, I am addicted to books. One of those books was "Yesterday's Adventure: A Photographic History of Lane County, Oregon" published in 1998 by the Lane County Historical Society. When I grabbed … [Read more...]

Siuslaw Pioneer Museum: Florence

For me, part of the charm of Old Town is the sense of history that I get as I walk down the street or dine in one of the restaurants. Located in the heart of Old Town is the Siuslaw Pioneer Museum. I've heard a lot of good things about this museum, so last month I was glad to spend a few hours there with my family. I enjoyed learning more about the history of … [Read more...]

Little Free Libraries in South Lane County

For the past year and a half or so, I've been watching along the sidelines as Little Free Libraries began coming to south Lane County. I love to read and I love the feel of a real book in my hands (no e-reader here, yet). I also know the value of reading for all people, most especially children and teens, so this is obviously a project that would capture my attention. Little Free Libraries are lending libraries which operate on the "take a book, leave a book" principle. It is an … [Read more...]
