Siuslaw Falls

Siuslaw Falls

Just west of Lorane are the pretty stair-step falls of Siuslaw Falls. Located in a small, little-used county park, these falls are about 10 feet tall and 70 feet wide with a fish ladder located on the opposite shore. This out-of-the way spot might be a great place for a little fishing, a little playing in the water, and just getting away to explore something different. Given its close proximity to some great wineries, it might also make a good break while wine tasting.

Getting to Suislaw Falls is easy, just head west on Main Street in Cottage Grove. It will turn into the Cottage Grove-Lorane Road, and in 13 miles you’ll be in the town of Lorane. Go left on Territorial Highway and then veer right to Siuslaw River Road. You’ll pass Chateau Loraine Winery on your right. In just under 9 miles turn right onto Siuslaw Falls Road. And in less than half a mile you’ll be at a small parking place. The Falls are a short walk from the parking spots.

Siuslaw Falls signThere are no facilities at all at Suislaw Falls. While it was an Eagle Scout Project in 2009, the picnic tables have since been removed. At this remote of a location, it looks like the park might sometimes see the wrong kind of activity; getting the right kind of activity out there would help a lot.

  1. Pretty falls. Too bad about the “unwanted activity.”

  2. Actually, there are now a few picnic tables and what looks to be a new bench at the site. However, the sign for Siuslaw Falls that is in your photo has mostly disappeared (broken? stolen?), though remnants of the sign and the Boy Scouts information still stands.

    • I’m glad the picnic table and bench were added. It is a beautiful spot and worthy of sitting and enjoying for a while. But it is too bad about the sign. It was a nice one and looked pretty new when we were there.
